- You are partially correct in stating that arbritrary limitations are silly.
- They are sometimes necessary to bring a product to market though… but however
- silly, compiler limitations SHOULD be documented in an appendix labeled
- "compiler limitations". It is critical that developers in any machine
- environment be able to know the limitations of that environment. Thus,
- compiler limitations such as maximimum number of identifiers, maximum
- identifier length, maximum number of nested procedures, maximum number of
- objects, etc… SHOULD be made known to the developer. Similarly, other tools
- such as the linker and librarian SHOULD have documentation of their
- limitations.
